Gamma vs Decktopus

Gamma and Decktopus side by side: what each one is, what it costs to start, and whether you can try it free. Everything below comes from the vendors' own sites and other public sources, not from hands-on testing.

Neither tool is ranked above the other here. These are research-based profiles, not hands-on tests. Starting price is the lowest listed paid plan per month (annual-billing equivalent where the vendor lists one), as shown on the vendor's own site when we last checked. Prices change, so confirm on the vendor's site. How this site works.

Key differences

Gamma lists a free tier and Decktopus does not.

Gamma has the lower starting price ($9/mo against $9.99/mo for Decktopus). The cheapest plan rarely has the same limits or features, so compare plans before choosing on price.

Both are in our Presentations & Slides category.

About each tool

Gamma

AI tool that generates presentations, documents and websites from a prompt or outline. Free plan with 400 credits; paid plans add credits, no badge and custom domains.

Who it is for

People and teams who build slide decks, documents or simple multi-page sites. Gamma sells per-user plans from individual up to Team and Business, and has an API for developers.

Strengths

  • Free plan with 400 AI credits at sign-up, with export to PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides
  • The free plan can import PDF and PPTX files
  • Plus and higher plans remove the "Made with Gamma" badge
  • API keys are available on Pro, Ultra, Teams and Business plans
  • Claude and ChatGPT connectors work on all plans, including Free

Limitations

  • The free plan is limited to 10 slides per prompt and 50k input tokens per generation; Plus raises this to 100 slides and 100k tokens
  • Credits are used per slide and per image, and the cost depends on the AI model chosen
  • Subscriptions are billed per user

Decktopus

Generates slide decks and carousels from a topic or file. Pro is $9.99 a month billed annually ($24.99 monthly) with 750 AI credits a month.

Who it is for

The vendor's help center describes Pro as aimed at individuals such as teachers, students and freelancers, and Business as a multi-seat plan with an organization workspace. Enterprise is for organizations deploying it company-wide and is quoted on request.

Strengths

  • Decktopus lists on Pro: presentations and carousels, PDF/PPT/PNG export, one-click sharing, Loop delivery practice, version history and mobile access.
  • Pro includes 750 AI credits a month (about 150 slides, per the pricing page); Business includes 1,000 credits per seat a month, so the team pool grows with each seat.
  • The help center says Business adds team collaboration (invite members from the Share modal), a custom subdomain for shared decks, deck analytics on viewer engagement, and an email gate before a shared deck opens.
  • Paid plans can buy credit packs from account settings; the pricing page says packs never expire and stack on monthly credits.
  • The pricing page says user data is excluded from AI training by default.
  • The pricing page says you can cancel anytime from account settings with no cancellation fee, and keep access until the billing period ends. It lists 50% off all plans for students with a code.

Limitations

  • AI use is metered in credits (750 a month on Pro, 1,000 per seat on Business). Credit pack prices are not listed on the pricing page.
  • The pricing page lists no free plan or trial; its Get Started button leads to a try-out dashboard whose terms are not described. A help article reported earlier says the first deck is free but cannot be exported and carries a watermark; that article could not be re-read this session (Reported).
  • No Business price is shown on the pricing page, and its FAQ lists slide analytics for Business while its comparison table does not, so the vendor's own page is inconsistent on that feature.
  • A help-center refund page says Decktopus does not offer refunds for any subscription or plan, while the pricing page lists a 3-month plan billed $59.97 and an annual plan billed $119.88 up front.
  • Enterprise credits and price are listed as custom, with no figures on the page.
