What is Darktrace?

Darktrace sells an AI-based security platform (ActiveAI Security Platform) covering cloud, email, network, endpoint, identity and OT environments. Its pages say a Self-Learning AI engine learns what is normal for each customer and a Cyber AI Analyst investigates alerts; it is sold as SaaS and, per an AWS Marketplace listing, supports hybrid and air-gapped deployments.

Who it's for

Organizations with security teams that want detection, investigation and automated response across several environments, including large enterprises, partners and managed security providers (the vendor's portal is described for these groups). The vendor routes buyers to a demo and sells modules separately or as a platform; it is not aimed at individual consumers.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Darktrace says its Self-Learning AI learns each customer's own environment to set a baseline of normal activity, and that Cyber AI Analyst investigates alerts rather than only escalated incidents.
  • The vendor lists products for cloud, email, network, OT, endpoint and identity, plus attack surface management, proactive exposure management, forensic acquisition and investigation, and incident recovery.
  • A vendor release from October 2025 describes a NEXT agent that combines network traffic with endpoint process data, and a Darktrace / ENDPOINT product that works alongside EDR tools.
  • Darktrace / SECURE AI (launched February 2026) is described as monitoring generative AI use and AI agents, with named integrations such as ChatGPT Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Amazon Bedrock and MCP servers.
  • The vendor's 2024 platform release says email and OT enhancements can be bought as standalone products, and the OT release names integrations such as Fortinet FortiGate firewall analysis and ServiceNow asset sync.
  • Darktrace says AI, including large language models and generative AI, has been used across its products, with Cyber AI Analyst named as one example.

Limitations

  • No public price on the vendor's own pages; the call to action is a demo request, so cost can only be confirmed by quote.
  • An AWS Marketplace listing shows annual contract prices of $30,000, $60,000 and $100,000 per 12 months for fixed tiers capped by bandwidth and host count; exceeding a cap means moving to a higher tier, and extra AWS infrastructure costs may apply. This is not the vendor's own price page.
  • The privacy policy read does not state whether product models are trained on customer data, how long product data is kept, or where it is stored; it says data may be processed anywhere in the world and points to separate data storage and security schedules that were not read.
  • Vendor pages do not mention a free plan. A 30-day Proof of Value at $0 appears only on the AWS Marketplace listing, so it is a trial, not a free plan.
  • Darktrace has been owned by Thoma Bravo since the deal closed on October 1, 2024; product and contract terms can change under private ownership.

Plans and pricing

  • Individual modules (Email, Network, Cloud, OT, Endpoint, Identity): Contact sales. No public price on the vendor's pages; sold by quote.
  • ActiveAI Security Platform (vendor): Contact sales. Platform across modules; no public price on the vendor's pages.
  • AWS Marketplace: 30-day Proof of Value: $0. Reported on the AWS Marketplace listing; a trial, not a free plan.
  • AWS Marketplace: Small: $30,000 per 12-month contract. Reported: up to 300 Mbps average bandwidth and 200 hosts.
  • AWS Marketplace: Medium: $60,000 per 12-month contract. Reported: up to 2 Gbps average bandwidth and 1,000 hosts.
  • AWS Marketplace: Large: $100,000 per 12-month contract. Reported: up to 5 Gbps average bandwidth and 10,000 hosts.

Darktrace's own pages published no price. The marketplace tiers come from an AWS Marketplace listing for the ActiveAI Security Platform, billed as a 12-month contract in USD with refunds governed by the Master Services Agreement; they are Reported and may differ from quotes.
