What is Liner?
Liner is an AI search and research tool that returns answers with cited sources, plus Liner Scholar for finding and comparing papers and Liner Write for drafting and editing. Its site lists downloads for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Chrome and Edge, and a developer API with MCP servers.
Who it's for
Liner describes its agents as built for professionals, and the product set points to students, researchers and writers who want cited answers, paper search and drafting in one subscription. Team and Enterprise plans add shared billing and admin controls for groups.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page lists unlimited Advanced Search plus Image Generation and Deep Research access on every plan, including Free.
- Liner lists 350+ models on Pro and Max (300+ language models and 50+ image models); the /en/pricing and main pricing pages give slightly different counts.
- The pricing page lists access to all Liner products (Liner, Scholar, Write) on Pro and Max, and ad-free answers on all paid plans.
- Liner's home page lists research agents such as Literature Review, Citation Recommender and Survey Generator, and developer tools including the Liner API, Search MCP and Scholar MCP.
- Liner's help center says inputs and outputs are not used to train its models when Data Control is turned off in Settings, and the pricing page says Team data is excluded from AI training.
- The terms say you keep ownership of your content, and subscription credits reset monthly.
Limitations
- The Free plan shows ads in answers and allows 1 file upload a day (up to 25MB); the FAQ says free credits are limited and may run out quickly.
- Credits are metered: the terms say usage deducts credits that vary by feature and question complexity. Neither the pricing page nor the terms give credit amounts for any plan.
- Pro allows 20 uploads a day (up to 100MB each); unlimited uploads (up to 200MB each) require Max.
- The pricing FAQ and terms say Liner does not offer refunds (the terms allow EU, UK and Turkey users to request one within 14 days), and credits are non-transferable and non-refundable. Purchased credit packs expire 6 months after purchase.
- The privacy policy says user content is sent to Google, OpenAI and Anthropic to generate answers, and that Liner may use user data to train its own models unless you turn off history and learning in settings. The terms require written approval for certain commercial uses, but the list was cut off on the page we read.
