What is SciSpace?

An AI research platform for academics that the vendor describes as a research assistant for literature reviews, paper search and cited writing, plus tools such as Chat with PDF, AI Writer, Paraphraser and Citation Generator. It runs on the web, with a Chrome extension and a mobile app, and the homepage links to an API.

Who it's for

Students, PhD candidates and researchers, which is the audience the vendor's homepage and meta description name. The site also links to separate Enterprise and Recruit offerings for organizations.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • The homepage meta description cites access to 280M+ papers and lists tools including Literature Review, Search Papers, Draft, Diagrams, Presentation, Chat with PDF, Extract Data, AI Detector and a Biomedical Agent.
  • The help center says AI Writer, Paraphraser, Literature Reviews, Citation Generator and Notebook keep working when the Agent credit balance is zero; only SciSpace Agent tasks consume credits.
  • The help center says SciSpace AI models are not trained on uploaded PDFs, for both free and paid users, and that files in your Library are private and accessible only to you.
  • The credit guide lists four tiers (Basic, Premium, Advanced, Max) with 4, 4, 8 and 16 parallel Agent tasks respectively, and says team members share one credit wallet.
  • The cancellation policy says you can cancel anytime through My Account or Support, and the Premium pricing page says all plans have a 100% money-back guarantee for 24 hours.
  • The homepage displays a SOC 2 badge; the trust center page could not be read, so the scope of the certification is not confirmed here.

Limitations

  • Agent usage is metered in credits: Basic gets 100 a month and Premium 1,200, credits expire at the end of each billing cycle, and a long task that exhausts the balance pauses until you upgrade. The guide's examples run from 24 credits (summarizing one pre-print) to 217 credits (drafting an introduction and methods), and the page says actual use varies.
  • The vendor's pages disagree on Advanced and Max: the credit guide lists them as 'Unlimited, with fair usage limits' (no figures given), while a help center article lists monthly allocations of 10,000 (Advanced) and 40,000 (Max).
  • The refund window is short: the policy says a full refund applies only if you cancel within 24 hours of the initial order and have used fewer than 300 credits; after that payment is non-refundable and service continues to the end of the term. Add-on credits are final and non-refundable.
  • Annual plans are charged as one lump sum, auto-renew, and the policy says the agreement cannot be ended before the term expires except for cause.
  • The credit guide says a team plan cannot mix Premium, Advanced and Max users, but also says teams with several tiers share credits within each tier, so the rule is unclear. The pages read do not state commercial-use terms or student discounts.

Plans and pricing

  • Basic: $0. Free plan with 100 Agent credits a month and 4 parallel tasks. Credits do not roll over.
  • Premium: $12 a month billed annually, or $20 monthly. 1,200 Agent credits a month, 4 parallel tasks.
  • Advanced: $70 a month billed annually, or $90 monthly. Listed as unlimited credits with fair usage limits (a help article says 10,000 a month); 8 parallel tasks.
  • Max: $160 a month billed annually, or $200 monthly. Listed as unlimited credits with fair usage limits (a help article says 40,000 a month); 16 parallel tasks.

Prices are in USD, read from SciSpace's credit and pricing guide pages; the main scispace.com/pricing page could not be fetched, so these figures are marked Reported. The guide lists only credits, price and parallel tasks per plan, not other features. Confirm on the live pricing page.
