What is Typecast?

Typecast is a web text-to-speech studio that turns text into voiceovers using a library of AI voices, with an AI voice editor, a video editor and avatar generations. It also offers voice cloning slots, iOS and Android apps, and a separate paid API.

Who it's for

Typecast's pricing page and help center point Basic and Plus at individual content creators and say businesses, institutions and agencies should use the Business plan. Free is positioned as a way to try the service, and Enterprise is sold through a sales inquiry.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • The pricing page lists Instant voice cloning (1 slot) from Basic and Professional cloning (1 slot) from Plus, with 2 slots in total on Pro and 10 on Business.
  • Typecast lists speed control from Plus, and emotion controls (including Smart Emotion) and intonation on Pro; voice generation and playback are listed as free on every plan, with credits used when you download audio.
  • Paid web plans list 44.1kHz audio, unlimited projects and unlimited download history, with media storage of 5GB (Basic), 30GB (Plus), 50GB (Pro) and 100GB (Business).
  • Basic through Business list a commercial license and watermark-free video, with attribution optional; video export is Full HD (1080p) on Basic and 4K on Plus and above.
  • A separate API has a Free tier (15k credits a month, concurrency 2), Lite at $15 a month (200k credits) and Plus at $280 a month (4M credits), at 1 credit per character; paid tiers can keep going past the included credits at pay-as-you-go rates.
  • The Usage Policy says you may keep using previously downloaded audio after a subscription ends, and a help article says content from a paid plan can be used permanently after cancellation.

Limitations

  • The Free web plan has 3,000 lifetime download credits (about 5 minutes), trial voices only, 16kHz audio, 1GB storage, 3 projects, 7-day download history and no avatar generations, and attribution is required on all downloaded content.
  • Web credits are used on download and capped monthly: Basic 30,000 (about 35 minutes), Plus 40,000 (about 50), Pro 75,000 (about 90), Business 200,000 (about 250); extra credit purchases are listed only for Business. The pages read did not say whether unused credits roll over.
  • The API Free tier says its audio cannot be used commercially and must include attribution; the Studio (web) and API plans are subscribed to and billed separately, and the API pricing page does not state commercial terms for paid API tiers.
  • The Usage Policy says generated audio can be used commercially during the subscription period and that separate branches or companies need their own subscriptions, while a help article says content can be used permanently after canceling; the Terms of Use say Typecast gets a license to use your content to operate, improve, promote and provide the services, and do not mention AI training directly.
  • Refunds on web purchases must be requested within 7 days of payment; the Terms of Use add that a full refund also requires that you have not downloaded content, and annual refunds after that are prorated. Purchases made in the iOS or Android apps are managed through the app store and may be priced differently.

Prices were read from the official web pricing page (annual plans are shown as yearly totals labeled Save 10%, so Basic works out to $4.50 a month) and from the API pricing page, in US dollars. A few Business cells in the page text were blank or inferred from its 'Everything in' chain, and the team-member count was not readable, so confirm Business details on the live pricing page.

Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
