What is You.com?
You.com sells AI search infrastructure as APIs: web and news search, page content extraction, cited answers, and multi-step research reports. It is used through an API platform with SDKs and an MCP server that works with clients such as Claude, Cursor and VS Code.
Who it's for
The vendor's current pages are aimed at developers and enterprises that need live web data for AI apps and agents. The vendor's pricing and API pages do not describe a consumer chat plan, so it is not presented there as a general-audience assistant.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page lists a free tier of 100 Web Search API queries per day through the MCP server, with no API key, account or credit card required.
- Pay-as-you-go pricing has no minimums, no seats and no platform fee, and includes all endpoints, SDKs and MCP; Auto Top-Up can buy credits when the balance falls below a set threshold.
- Per-call rates are published: Web Search $5 per 1k calls, Contents $1 per 1k pages, Answer $5 per 1k calls, Research from $12 per 1k calls (Lite) to $1,200 per 1k (Frontier).
- The product list includes Web Search, Contents, Answer, Research, Finance Research and Inference Router APIs, plus an MCP Server, Agent Skills and a Python SDK.
- The docs list integrations with LangChain, LlamaIndex, crewAI, Vercel AI SDK, n8n, Zapier, Pydantic and Replit, and setup guides for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, VS Code and Gemini CLI.
- The vendor states it is SOC 2 certified and DPA-ready, and its Zero Data Retention page says 'Your queries are not used to train models'.
Limitations
- Zero Data Retention is for enterprise agreement customers, is off by default, has no self-serve toggle, and covers only the Web Search and Answer APIs; the Contents and Research APIs are not currently covered.
- Most usage is metered per call from prepaid credits shared across an account or organization, so cost scales with volume; Research and Finance Research calls cost much more per call than search.
- The vendor's pages disagree on the free starter credit: the pricing page says $10 (stated as 2,000 searches), while the API page and about.you.com say $100 (the API page says about 20,000 searches).
- The billing page gives no general refund policy; it says to contact api@you.com with a receipt. Custom volume or annual rates and Enterprise terms require contacting the vendor.
- The API pages do not say whether consumer Chat plans (Free, Pro, Max) still exist or what they cost; one independent review reports they exist but have no public pricing page.
Plans and pricing

Prices were read from you.com/pricing and the billing docs, in US dollars per 1,000 calls or pages.
