What is Activepieces?
Activepieces is an open-source workflow automation platform that connects apps through flows and adds AI agents, chat, tables and MCP servers. It runs as a hosted cloud service (including an EU region in Frankfurt) or on your own servers, and the code lists a Docker-based self-hosted setup.
Who it's for
It suits individuals and teams who want to connect apps and build automations or AI agents, and who want the option to self-host. Its pricing page also lists an Embed plan for agencies and software companies that want a white-label flow builder inside their own product.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page says the Free plan needs no card and has no time limit, and that flows are unlimited on every plan; agents and chat, tables, MCPs and API and SDK are listed on all plans.
- The license page says the core is MIT-licensed, and the pricing page says every plan can run in the cloud or on-prem, with a free Community Edition for self-hosting.
- The pricing page says a run costs 1 credit regardless of step count; with your own AI provider keys (Plus and up), each AI step costs 1 credit and model costs go on your provider bill.
- The GitHub page says it has 200+ pieces (integrations), about 60% community-contributed, available as MCP servers for tools such as Claude Desktop, Cursor or Windsurf; any API can be reached through the HTTP piece or a webhook, per the pricing FAQ.
- The pricing FAQ says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, can be hosted in the EU cloud (Frankfurt), another region on request, or on your own servers, and that a DPA, penetration test summary and sub-processor list are available on request.
- The pricing page says you can cancel, change plans or add seats at any time; upgrades and added seats apply immediately and are prorated, and downgrades apply at the end of the billing period.
Limitations
- Credits are metered: AI steps add 2, 10 or 20 credits (fast, smart or frontier model) on top of the 1-credit run, and each agentic action costs 1 credit, per the pricing page.
- Free has 1,000 credits and up to 5 users, and runs wait for the next refresh once credits are used. Plus ($20) and Team ($200) keep running and charge $0.007 per extra credit; bring-your-own AI keys start at Plus.
- SSO, global connections, unlimited projects and email support start at Team; SCIM, custom roles, audit logs, Git Sync/releases, private pieces and dedicated support are listed for Ultimate only. The pricing page says the SOC 2 program is in progress and not yet certified.
- Enterprise features under the commercial license need an Activepieces license, even when self-hosted, per the license page.
- Vendor pages disagree: the pricing table shows the Free credit reset as daily while the plan card and FAQ say monthly, and an older vendor blog lists different plans (Plus $25, Business $150, 200 AI credits). The pricing page does not address refunds, and annual prices are not listed despite 'Save 2 months'.
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. 1,000 credits, up to 5 users, unlimited flows, community support. No card or time limit.
- Plus: $20 a month (annual price not listed). 10,000 credits a month, up to 5 users, community support, bring-your-own AI keys; $0.007 per extra credit.
- Team: $200 a month (annual price not listed). 50,000 credits a month, 25 users included, unlimited projects, SSO, global connections, email support; $0.007 per extra credit.
- Ultimate: Custom. Yearly credit pool sized to you, volume rates, unlimited users, dedicated workers and support, SCIM, custom roles, Git Sync, audit logs. Sales only.
- Embed: From $36k a year. White-label builder and SDK for your own product, with your own pieces and templates. Sales only.
Prices were read from the official pricing page, which shows a Monthly/Annual toggle and 'Save 2 months' but no annual prices, so Plus and Team are given as the listed flat monthly price. Prices are in US dollars. The Free credit reset period conflicts within the page, and an older vendor blog post lists different plans, so the figures follow the pricing page.
