What is AutoGPT?
AutoGPT is a hosted web platform where you hire AI "Experts" (role-based agents) for recurring work such as content, sales and research, coordinated by a lead assistant called Otto. You can also build agents in a visual builder or self-host the platform with Docker.
Who it's for
The vendor's home page aims at people who want to hand off recurring or multi-step work to AI specialists, and its pricing page sells Pro and Max as individual plans. A Team tier for multi-user workspaces is listed as coming soon.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The home page lists 33 ready-made Experts, and says you can hire one or create your own with a role, instructions, skills and workflows.
- Otto is described as the lead generalist that brings in the right Experts and reports back; you can also message any Expert directly.
- The pricing page lists spending caps per Expert, per-task LLM budget caps, and token and cost tracking.
- The home page says you choose which connected accounts each Expert can use, can review activity and results, and can change or pause scheduled work.
- The home page and docs say AutoGPT can be self-hosted for free with a single Docker command; with self-hosting you manage infrastructure and model access, and the pricing page says usage is unlimited with your own LLM API keys.
- The home page shows Google Drive and WordPress integrations and links to an AutoGPT for Slack page; the site cites over 187k GitHub stars.
Limitations
- Workflow runs are pay-as-you-go through a credit wallet on every plan; the pricing page does not list credit amounts, per-credit rates or absolute chat usage limits.
- There is no free hosted plan: the pricing page offers 7 days of Pro for eligible new accounts, with a card required and trial terms confirmed at checkout.
- Max is $320 a month billed monthly and lists 8.5x Pro usage and 5x file storage; the pricing page does not show the Max annual price, only that annual billing saves 15%.
- The Team tier (admin controls, roles, seat management) is shown as coming soon with no price; a third-party tracker instead lists Team and Enterprise as contact-sales tiers.
- The platform terms of use (section 3.1) say the Platform is for personal, non-commercial use only, while the home page describes sales and content work; the terms do not address refunds or credits, and the privacy policy does not say whether general user content is used to train models.
Plans and pricing
- Trial: $0 for 7 days. Pro for eligible new accounts; card required, nothing charged upfront, trial usage limits apply.
- Pro: $510 a year ($42.50 a month equivalent), or $50 monthly. Individual plan covering Otto and Expert chat, email support; workflow runs use the credit wallet. Annual saves 15%.
- Max: $272 a month billed annually, or $320 monthly. Everything in Pro with 8.5x Pro usage, 5x file storage, priority support and onboarding, early feature access. Annual figure is Reported (15% off $320, matches a third-party tracker).
- Team: Not listed (coming soon). Multi-user workspaces, admin controls and roles, centralized billing and seat management, custom usage; pricing requires contacting sales.
