What is ChatGPT Plus?
ChatGPT Plus is OpenAI's paid personal subscription for the ChatGPT assistant. It adds expanded usage of chat, deep research, image creation, voice, file uploads, memory and Codex compared with the Free and Go plans.
Who it's for
Individuals who want more usage and tools than the Free or Go plans give them. OpenAI sells Business and Enterprise plans separately for organizations.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- OpenAI lists projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs on Plus
- OpenAI lists expanded deep research, memory and context, and Codex usage over Free and Go
- Codex on the web, command line, IDE extension and iOS is included, and extra usage can be bought with ChatGPT credits
- OpenAI says Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts will not have ads
- You can turn off Improve the model for everyone in Settings under Data controls, and OpenAI says Temporary Chats are not used to improve models
Limitations
- OpenAI says Plus may include usage limits such as message caps, especially during high demand. The plan page says only that limits apply, and we found no published number for general chat
- Plus is billed monthly only. OpenAI's help article says it does not support annual billing, and API usage is billed separately
- Higher Codex, memory, image and deep research allowances are reserved for Pro, which OpenAI states as 5x Plus usage at $100 a month and 20x at $200 a month
- OpenAI says ads can appear on the Free and Go plans, which is a plan difference rather than a Plus limit
- The pages we read were inconsistent on agent mode, so we do not list it as a Plus feature
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. Text chats on the base model with abuse guardrails. Limited uploads, image creation, voice, deep research, memory and Codex. May show ads.
- Go: $8 a month (US; localized in some markets). More messages, uploads, image creation, voice chats and longer memory than Free. Ads may appear. Exact caps are not published.
- Plus: $20 a month, billed monthly (no annual billing). Advanced reasoning models, expanded messages, uploads, deep research, memory and Codex, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, early access to features. Limits apply with no published number. No ads.
- Pro $100: $100 a month. Stated by OpenAI as 5x the usage of Plus, with the same core features.
- Pro $200: $200 a month. Stated as 20x the usage of Plus. OpenAI paused new sign-ups and upgrades to this tier as of 10 September 2026.
Plus at $20 is from OpenAI's help article and Go at $8 is from OpenAI's Go launch post, which the Codex pricing page also shows. We could not read the main pricing page, so we found nothing on regional or tax pricing or on current numeric chat limits. The Codex pricing page also mentions a $500 tier that we could not confirm on a consumer page, so we do not list it. Confirm on the live pricing page.
