What is Clipchamp?
Clipchamp is Microsoft's video editor for the browser and Windows. It has a timeline editor, stock media, screen and webcam recording, and AI tools such as auto captions, text to speech, silence removal and background removal.
Who it's for
People with a personal Microsoft account, and organisations with work or school Microsoft 365 accounts. Microsoft lists a personal version and a work or school version.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The free personal plan exports up to 1080p with no watermark
- Auto captions, text to speech, silence removal and image background removal are listed on the free personal plan
- 4K export and the other Premium features come with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family, with no separate Clipchamp purchase
- A work and school version is included with selected Microsoft 365 and Office 365 business and education subscriptions
Limitations
- 4K export is a Premium feature and is not on the free personal plan
- Premium stock media and the brand kit are Premium features
- Automatic cloud backup is listed as Premium only in Microsoft's comparison. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family get the Premium features except that one
- Microsoft says Clipchamp Premium is not a Microsoft 365 Copilot license
Plans and pricing
- Free (personal): $0. Needs a personal Microsoft account. 1080p export, no watermark, free stock media and the AI tools above.
- Premium through Microsoft 365 Personal: $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month. The price is for the Microsoft 365 subscription, not Clipchamp alone. Adds 4K export, premium stock media and the brand kit.
- Premium through Microsoft 365 Family: $129.99 a year or $12.99 a month. The same Clipchamp Premium features.
- Work and school: Included with selected Microsoft 365 plans. The Standard version includes 4K export and brand kits. Premium for work is sold separately; no price was listed.
Microsoft's pages gave no Clipchamp-only price. They mention a standalone personal Premium subscription, but we could not confirm it is still on sale. Microsoft says the older Creator and Business plans are retired. Prices are US prices.
