What is Descript?
Descript is an audio and video editor where you edit recordings by editing their transcript. It also includes AI tools such as Studio Sound, filler-word removal, Eye Contact, AI speech and its Underlord assistant.
Who it's for
Solo creators, small teams and larger organizations that record and edit video or podcasts. The plans range from a one-person Hobbyist tier to Business (up to 5 seats) and Enterprise (SSO, custom terms).

Strengths
- Text-based editing is listed on every plan, including Free
- The Free plan needs no credit card and allows unlimited projects, with 1 hour of media a month
- Paid plans export without a watermark: up to 1080p on Hobbyist and up to 4K on Creator and Business
- AI features listed include Studio Sound, Remove Filler Words, Eye Contact, Green Screen, and AI speech with custom voice clones, avatars and generated video
- Enterprise lists SSO and SCIM, audit logs, SOC 2 Type II, opt-out of AI training and custom retention
Limitations
- Free allows 60 media minutes a month, 100 AI credits once (not monthly), 720p export with a watermark, a 1 GB upload limit and 5 GB of storage
- Media minutes and AI credits reset at each renewal and do not roll over
- AI credits are metered per use (Underlord, Studio Sound, Eye Contact, AI speech and others), Underlord's cost varies by task, and chatting with Underlord also uses credits
- Top-ups of media minutes and AI credits are listed only for Creator and Business. The pages we read do not state top-up prices or what happens at a limit without a top-up
- Pricing is per person. Creator scales to 3 seats and Business to 5, each billed separately, and Viewers cannot use credit-based features
- Some features are tiered: Underlord is limited on Hobbyist, 4K and video generation start at Creator, and translation with proofread and Brand Studio start at Business

- Free: $0. 1 hour of media a month, 100 AI credits once, 720p export with watermark, 1 GB upload, 5 GB storage, 1 seat.
- Hobbyist: $16 or $24 per person a month (the page does not label which is annual). 10 hours of media a month, 400 AI credits a month, watermark-free 1080p, 10 GB upload, 100 GB storage, 1 seat, no top-ups.
- Creator: $24 or $35 per person a month (the page does not label which is annual). 30 hours of media a month, 800 AI credits a month, 4K export, 1 TB storage, 1 to 3 seats billed separately, top-ups available.
- Business: $50 or $65 per person a month (the page does not label which is annual). 40 hours of media a month, 1,500 AI credits a month, 4K export, 2 TB storage, up to 5 seats billed separately, top-ups, Brand Studio, priority support with SLA.
- Enterprise: Custom, contact sales. Media hours sized to the team, custom AI credits, SSO and SCIM, audit logs, dedicated customer success manager.
Plan limits are from Descript's pricing page and help center. The pricing page shows two prices per plan with a Monthly/Annual toggle and a 'saving up to 35%' note but does not label which is which; the lower figure is probably the annual price, but confirm on the live page. The help center calls the Hobbyist tier Education/Nonprofit Hobbyist in one article. The Free-plan watermark comes from the pricing table. Our earlier card said there was no free plan, which was wrong.
