What is Klaviyo?
An email, SMS and mobile messaging marketing platform for online stores that combines customer profiles, segmentation, automated flows, campaigns, reporting and web forms, with AI features such as the Composer marketing agent and Customer Agent. It runs in the browser and lists 350+ integrations, including Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento.
Who it's for
Online merchants and brands that want to send email, SMS, push and other messages from one set of customer data; the vendor's pages center on ecommerce platforms and stores. The free plan suits very small lists, while larger senders are billed by active profile tier.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The vendor lists email, SMS, RCS for Business, WhatsApp, social and mobile app marketing, plus Customer Hub, Reviews, Personalization and Helpdesk, in one platform.
- The features page lists 350+ pre-built integrations and APIs, naming Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Meta, TikTok, Google Ads, Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe and Gorgias.
- The vendor lists AI features: Segment AI and Flows AI (build segments and flows from prompts), predictive analytics (next order date, lifetime value, churn risk), Composer (an agent that answers data questions and runs scheduled analyses) and Customer Agent for service.
- The free plan lists a drag-and-drop editor, web forms, basic segmentation, built-in reporting, an AI subject line generator and $5 a month of Composer usage.
- The vendor lists connectors so data can be queried from Composer, Claude, ChatGPT or other MCP-compatible agents; the help center describes a Klaviyo app for Claude that can create campaigns, pull reports and update profiles, and requires an Owner, Admin or Manager role.
- The billing article says unsubscribed and suppressed profiles do not count toward billing and that all plans bill monthly in advance.
Limitations
- The free plan is capped at 250 active profiles, 500 email sends a month, $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage; the help center says exceeding the profile limit blocks sending and free accounts show Klaviyo branding in email footers.
- Free-plan email support is limited to the first 60 days; after that the help center lists Community and Customer Education resources only. Paid plans list email and chat support.
- Pricing is modular: mobile messaging, Marketing Analytics, Customer Hub, Helpdesk, Customer Agent, Reviews, Composer and Advanced KDP are separate plans or add-ons with their own units (profiles, tickets, resolved conversations, credits). Several list prices are not published on the pages read.
- The billing article says there are no refunds for mid-cycle downgrades or for unused Mobile Messaging, and that Composer credits are non-refundable, non-transferable and unused paid capacity expires each billing period. Mobile spend does not roll over.
- The vendor says K:AI agents are currently available in English, with more languages planned for 2026. The pages read do not state whether customer content is used to train AI models: the privacy FAQ says it uses personal data to provide the services and may use aggregated, de-identified data to improve the services, and points to its Data Processing Agreement, which was not read.
