What is Lara Translate?

Lara Translate is an AI translation service for text, documents, images and audio, run through a web app, iOS and Android apps, a Chrome extension and an API. Lara's pricing page also lists a Voice Interpreter, and its developer pages list a command-line tool and an MCP server.

Who it's for

It suits individuals who translate occasionally on the free plan, freelancers on Pro, and teams that share one character pool across unlimited users. Larger organizations can ask for SSO, data residency and guaranteed SLAs on the Enterprise plan.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Lara's file-formats page lists 70 supported document formats, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, CSV, JSON, XLIFF, PO, SRT and several image types, and its API page says layout and styling are preserved.
  • Lara's API page says text and documents cover over 200 languages, images 70+ languages and audio 50+ languages.
  • The pricing page says Incognito mode on all plans means your content is never stored, logged or used for training, and the API page says data is never used to train its public models.
  • The pricing page lists translation styles, explanations of translation choices and context features on Free, and adds mobile apps, scanned PDF support, integrations, CAT tool and API usage on Pro.
  • Team plans share one pool across unlimited users at no per-person charge, and Lara's update log describes Team Groups for sharing glossaries and translation memories.
  • On Pro and Team, usage past the monthly pool continues at an extra-usage rate instead of stopping, according to the help center.

Limitations

  • Usage comes from a monthly character pool that does not roll over. Documents count at least 20,000 characters per file, an image counts 10,000 (web) or 25,000 (iOS and Android), audio counts 40 characters per second and live Voice Interpreter 400 characters per second.
  • Free has 60,000 characters a month and no extra usage, so translation pauses until the next cycle. The pricing page lists a 10 MB document cap on Free against 200 MB on Pro and Team, and its Free API allowance is 10,000 characters a month (developer docs: text and language identification only).
  • API and CAT tool usage is billed separately from the app pool, from the first character. The pricing page lists $24.99 per 1M characters on Pro and $19.99 on Team for Lara Standard; Lara Think and Lara Prosa cost more, and Prosa is added on top of Standard.
  • Lara's pages disagree: the pricing page lists USD prices, extra usage of $0.30 (Pro) and $0.25 (Team) per 10,000 characters, a 200 MB document limit and higher tiers adding quality and features, while the help center lists EUR prices, extra usage of 0.25 and 0.20 EUR, says Free and Pro include all features, and the file-formats page says there are no file size limits.
  • The pricing page shows only annual-billing prices (with a monthly toggle). The cancellation page says a canceled paid plan stays active to the end of the paid period and then drops to Free, and it does not mention refunds; moving from annual to monthly billing requires contacting support.

Plans and pricing

  • Free: $0. 60,000 characters a month, 1 user, no credit card, no extra usage, 10 MB documents, 10,000 API characters a month.
  • Pro: $9.99 a month billed annually (monthly-billing USD price not listed). 500,000 characters a month, 1 user, 200 MB documents; extra usage $0.30 per 10,000 characters; API $24.99 per 1M characters. Help center: 8 EUR a month billed annually, 9 EUR monthly.
  • Team: From $29.99 a month billed annually. Shared pool from 1.5M characters (2-3 users suggested), unlimited users; tiers listed: 3M $54.99, 9M $149.99, 20M $269.99, 60M $799.99; extra usage $0.25 per 10,000 characters; API $19.99 per 1M characters. Help center: from 25 EUR a month.
  • Enterprise: Custom. Contact sales; custom quota, data sovereignty and residency, SSO, guaranteed SLAs, dedicated account manager, personalized API pricing.

Prices were read from the pricing page (USD, annual billing), the developer pricing page and help center articles that list EUR. The monthly-billing USD price could not be read, and the update log says subscriptions can be paid in USD or EUR. Because the help center EUR and extra-usage figures differ from the USD page, confirm on the live pricing page.
