What is memoQ?
memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool that combines translation memory, term bases, LiveDocs reference documents and predictive typing. It runs locally on Microsoft Windows and does not need a server connection.
Who it's for
memoQ describes it as a tool for translators, editors and reviewers, and also mentions translation students. It is a standalone edition: the help center says it has no server access or online collaboration by default, though a client's server credentials let you connect to their memoQ TMS.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- memoQ lists a translation memory with concordance search, a term base that highlights terms and warns about missing ones, LiveDocs for aligned reference documents, and The Muse, predictive typing trained on your own memories and LiveDocs.
- The pricing page lists machine translation integration, live preview, LQA, real-time spell checking, pre-translation, statistics, glossary export (CSV, Multiterm) and InDesign support with preview in both plans.
- memoQ says it accepts jobs directly from companies using a memoQ server and can receive packages from most major translation tools, importing and exporting other tools' proprietary files such as SDLXLIFF.
- memoQ says it supports over 100 languages and formats such as Word, XLIFF, XML, SDLXLIFF and INDD.
- Both plans include software updates and 24/7 support, per the pricing page, and a 14-day trial is offered.
- The system requirements page lists 64-bit Windows 10 (Anniversary Update or later) or Windows 11, 8 GB RAM minimum (16 GB or more recommended) and 600 MB of disk space.
Limitations
- memoQ translator pro runs on Windows only. The vendor says memoQ might run in a Windows virtual machine on a Mac, but it does not test ARM processors and accepts no responsibility on unsupported hardware.
- There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. The pricing page lists two subscriptions; the help center's purchase page also mentions a perpetual license option, but no perpetual price appears on the pages read.
- Both subscriptions renew automatically. The help center says memoQ offers no refunds and that you can cancel any time before the next billing date.
- EU residents without a valid VAT ID must pay taxes on top of the listed price. Prices come in EUR and USD with different amounts, and discount codes can be limited to certain currencies.
- The pages read do not state how many computers a subscription covers or how translation data is stored or used. The FAQ, which covers perpetual licenses, says a license can be used on up to two computers.
Plans and pricing
- Trial: $0 for 14 days. Trial only, not a free plan. Started from the downloads or product page.
- Annual subscription (per license): $436 a year, billed annually ($36.33 a month equivalent). Also listed at EUR 396 a year. Renews yearly unless canceled. Includes updates and 24/7 support. The page says 'Save up to 25%'.
- Monthly subscription (per license): $54 a month. Also listed at EUR 44 a month. Renews monthly unless canceled and can be switched to annual at any time. Positioned for short-term or project use.
Prices were read from memoQ's individual-use pricing page and product page; both agree, and the help center plans page lists no prices. The memoQ TMS plans for teams are separate and not covered here. Confirm on the live pricing page.
