What is Norton Genie?

Norton Genie is an AI scam-detection assistant from Gen Digital (Norton) that reviews pasted text, screenshots, links, emails and social posts, says whether they may be scams, and suggests next steps. It runs as a web app at Genie.Norton.com, as iOS and Android apps, and inside the Scam Protection section of Norton 360 apps on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.

Who it's for

Consumers who want a second opinion on a suspicious text, email, website or YouTube video. Norton's FAQ says Genie is not a replacement for anti-phishing software, since it focuses on detection and response after a message has reached you.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Norton's FAQ says Genie is free at Genie.Norton.com or through the App Store or Google Play; the App Store lists the iOS app as Free with no in-app purchases listed.
  • Norton says Genie checks texts, emails, websites and social posts, explains what the scammer is likely trying to do, and suggests next steps; the App Store says you can paste text or upload screenshots and ask follow-up questions.
  • Norton says its AI looks at wording, context and emotional cues, not only links, and that Genie combines AI with Norton's proprietary cybersecurity data, including a library of known phishing attacks and scam indicators used to train it.
  • Norton's support pages list Genie on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS inside Scam Protection, and the FAQ lists the web version for Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
  • Norton's deepfake support page says you can paste a public YouTube link into Genie's Ask Genie field and it reports whether the video appears to be a deepfake scam, with a summary.
  • A Norton blog post dated February 24, 2026 says a Norton app inside ChatGPT, powered by Genie, lets you tag @Norton in a chat to check messages, links and images.

Limitations

  • Norton's FAQ says Genie is in an early access phase, may not always decide whether a message is a scam, and then gives next steps instead. Norton's pages say no one can prevent all cybercrime, and no accuracy or detection-rate figures are given.
  • Genie's deepfake detection covers only public English-language YouTube videos, per Norton. Scam evaluation in the App Store listing is English only, though submissions with a URL are analyzed regardless of language.
  • Data handling is thinly stated: Norton's support page says Genie chat history is deleted automatically after 30 days and can be turned on or off in settings. Norton's pages do not say whether submitted content is used for AI training; the FAQ says usage helps Genie improve. The App Store lists Diagnostics data, not linked to you.
  • Norton's pages disagree on plan details: the FAQ describes Genie as free and standalone, the deepfake support page says Genie is included with Scam Protection or Scam Protection Pro plans, and the AI Scam Protection page describes reimbursement as Ultimate Plus only while also saying Select Plus offers up to $25,000 in stolen funds reimbursement. Minimum versions also differ (FAQ: iOS 15 and Android 8; deepfake page: iOS 16 and Android 10).
  • Safe Call and Safe Email require Scam Protection Pro (LifeLock plans and others), and Scam Restoration & Reimbursement (up to $10,000, US only, excluding New York residents) requires LifeLock Ultimate Plus, so those are not part of the free Genie.

Plans and pricing

Genie's free status is from Norton's FAQ and the App Store listing. Paid prices are first-year prices in US dollars, billed annually, read from Norton's AI Scam Protection page, which says renewal prices may be higher and can change. Norton's main US products page and its Mobile Security prices could not be read this session. Confirm on the live pricing page.
