What is BambooHR?
BambooHR is a cloud HR platform covering employee records and reporting, hiring and onboarding, time off, benefits tracking and performance tools. Its AI assistant (called Ask BambooHR on the pricing page and Bamboo AI on the AI page) answers questions from company data on desktop and in the mobile app.
Who it's for
BambooHR prices separately for companies with 25 or fewer employees (flat monthly rate) and for larger companies (per employee, with volume discounts). The AI assistant suits HR teams that want plain-language answers and reports from their own HR data, with the customer responsible for human review.

Strengths
- BambooHR lists an AI assistant in Core, Pro and Elite: everyday HR questions in Core, deeper answers on policies, handbooks and benefits in Pro, and an advanced assistant in Elite.
- BambooHR's AI page lists plain-language workforce questions, charts and custom reports, burnout and time-off pattern flags, schedule and recognition drafts, and routine timesheet approvals.
- BambooHR says its AI works inside BambooHR and in other AI tools, with examples of approving time off from Claude, sending review reminders through ChatGPT and asking Slack who is out today.
- BambooHR says it never uses one customer's data to serve another, and lists annual third-party SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits, encryption, a bug bounty program and admin rules for what the AI can do and when human approval is required.
- BambooHR lists in Core: 5 job openings, 1 compliance training course, Compliance Intelligence (VirgilHR) and On-Demand Pay. Pro lists 25 openings and 15 courses; Elite lists 50 openings, 300+ courses, compensation tools with Mercer salary benchmarking, custom dashboards and 2 hours a year of data integrity services.
- BambooHR says customer data is hosted in the United States, Canada or Ireland, and that implementation generally takes four to six weeks, with a QuickStart process for organizations under 25 employees.
Limitations
- The AI Addendum says BambooHR may use performance data and feedback to improve Bamboo AI, and may fine-tune a model on customer data, input and output, used only for that customer. It names OpenAI and Cohere as AI providers.
- The AI Addendum bars sensitive or regulated input such as HIPAA-protected health information, government ID numbers and bank account details, and bars use for high-risk, significant or consequential decisions under applicable law. Output is provided as is and the customer should fact-check it.
- The pricing page shows different Core and Pro prices in the headline ($10, $17) and in the FAQ ($10.25, $17.50) and does not explain the difference. The AI page does not state which plans include which AI features, and a 2025 product update lists the mobile AI assistant for Core and Pro only.
- Payroll, Benefits Administration, Time & Attendance and Global Employment (powered by Remote) are add-ons with no prices listed. The Payroll promotion requires a minimum 12-month agreement and excludes implementation and multi-state filing fees.
- Month-to-month plans end on the last day of the subscription month and the Terms of Service give no refunds for partial months or implementation costs. Extended-term plans are non-cancelable until the end of the term, auto-renew for 12 months and need 60 days' notice to stop renewal.

- Elite: $25 per employee a month. Flat $650 a month for 25 or fewer employees. Everything in Pro plus compensation management, custom dashboards, HR benchmarks, 50 job openings, 300+ training courses and the advanced AI assistant.
Prices were read from the official pricing page (bamboohr.com/pricing) and the FAQ, in US dollars per employee a month. The page offers month-to-month or an extended term, lists no annual price, free plan or free trial, and applies volume discounts and a 15% nonprofit discount automatically or on request.
