What is Ironclad?
Ironclad sells contract lifecycle management (CLM) software that covers creating, reviewing, signing, storing, analyzing and fulfilling contracts, with an AI layer (Ironclad AI and Ironclad Agent) for search, redlining and extraction. It is a web platform with a Microsoft Word add-in and integrations such as Salesforce and Slack, plus a separate Clickwrap product for online terms acceptance.
Who it's for
The vendor organizes its solutions by team: legal ops, general counsel, procurement, IT and sales, and its Contract Review Agent page targets legal teams (legal ops, general counsel, attorneys). Pricing is quote-based with a demo request, so it is aimed at organizations buying a platform rather than individuals.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Ironclad lists six CLM stages (Create, Review, Sign, Store, Analyze, Fulfill), a no-code Workflow Designer, a searchable contract repository with clause and metadata extraction, and bulk import of legacy documents.
- Ironclad says its AI agents (Intake, Contract Review, Archive, Renewal and Analytics) cover intake, review, archiving, renewals, analytics and workflow configuration, and that Ironclad Agent accepts plain-language questions and can start intake workflows.
- The Contract Review Agent page says legal teams can redline against company playbooks (preferred positions and fallbacks) inside Ironclad and Microsoft Word, upload a previously negotiated agreement as precedent, and keep the final decision with the reviewer.
- The vendor lists integrations including Salesforce, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Word, DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, Box, Google Drive, HubSpot, SAP, NetSuite, Coupa, Snowflake, SSO/SCIM and Zapier, plus MCP connectors and public APIs (CLM API, Clickwrap API, Rivet).
- The security page lists SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001/27017/27018, a GDPR program with Standard Contractual Clauses and a DPA, a HIPAA compliance statement, TLS 1.2+ in transit and AES-256 at rest; the AI page also lists ISO 27701 and bring-your-own-key encryption.
- The Contract Review Agent page says Ironclad does not use customer data, prompts or AI responses to train its models unless the organization opts in under the AI Addendum, and that third-party AI providers may not train on customer data, with zero data retention enabled where available.
Limitations
- Pricing is not published: the pricing page lists no plans or dollar amounts and says pricing is shaped by products, users, workflows and growth; it directs visitors to request a custom quote or demo.
- The pricing page says integrations vary, with some complementary and some paid add-ons, and lists API and integrations, additional instances and an enhanced team success plan as optional add-ons. The platform page says integrations and capabilities vary by product edition and use case.
- Ironclad's own cost article says most CLM platforms do not publish pricing and gives its estimates as annual totals including license, implementation and first-year support: small business $5,000 to $25,000, mid-market $25,000 to $150,000 (the article's headline says $15,000 to $150,000) and enterprise $150,000 to $500,000+, with one-time implementation fees of $5,000 to $100,000+. These are estimates, not a price list.
- The AI training pages differ in detail: the security page makes no statement about AI features or training, while the AI and Contract Review Agent pages say no training without opt-in. The Contract Review Agent page also says default AI training settings depend on the agreement and data location, and administrators can change them. Check your contract's AI Addendum.
- The vendor says it is not a law firm, its site content is not legal advice, and using the site creates no attorney-client relationship. The pages read name no jurisdictions or legal content sources and describe no privilege-specific controls. The security page says production runs on US-hosted Google Cloud; the AI Contract Review Agent page names models from Google Gemini, OpenAI and Anthropic. A 7-day free trial of the Contract Review Agent is offered on request.
