What is Marvelous Designer?
Marvelous Designer is desktop software, made by CLO Virtual Fashion, for building 3D garments from 2D patterns and simulating how the cloth drapes and moves. The vendor's system-requirements page lists Windows 11, Apple Silicon Macs and, for Enterprise customers on request, Rocky Linux or RHEL.
Who it's for
The vendor's license pages split buyers into individuals, students, academic institutions and companies. Personal licenses are for freelancers, hobbyists and sole proprietors, while companies are pointed to Enterprise or Indie Studio licenses.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The vendor lists a 14-day free trial: personal users start it from the trial page and enterprise users submit an inquiry form. A trial can be cancelled before it ends with no charge after expiry.
- The vendor's help center says Personal monthly can be cancelled or paused for up to 6 months, and the Personal 1-year option is prepaid and does not auto-renew.
- Reported by CGChannel: version 2026.0 added a 3D Pencil tool, a Lacing Tool, EveryWear rig templates (experimental), a Toon Shader, glTF and VRM avatar import, Alembic morph animation, and more FBX and glTF animation export options.
- The vendor lists a Student plan at $8.25 a month in a July 2026 announcement, with a four-year student eligibility window and a free three-month offer for new student sign-ups valid until October 31.
- The vendor lists academic pricing of $300 per copy for fewer than 10 copies and $150 per copy for more than 10, bought through sales.
- The vendor lists an Indie Studio license for registered companies with at least two employees and annual revenue of $500,000 or less; 80.lv reports it includes the same features as Enterprise, such as multi-seat license management and dedicated support.
Limitations
- There is no free plan; the vendor lists only a 14-day trial.
- The vendor's system-requirements page says an internet connection is required on all platforms, and GPU simulation and rendering acceleration use NVIDIA CUDA, so Intel or AMD graphics do not speed up simulation.
- The Linux edition is available only to Enterprise customers on request, at $2,300 a year per seat; Enterprise Network Online Monthly is node-locked to one device and cancelling it after a renewal is non-refundable. Standalone Enterprise licenses ended December 2, 2025.
- Indie Studio pricing is not published: the vendor says to contact sales, and the license is limited to registered companies with at least two employees and revenue of $500,000 or less.
- The vendor's pages disagree on Student pricing: a July 2026 announcement says $8.25 a month, while the help-center license article and a student policy page still list $99 for one year with no refunds, and an older license-changes page lists $15 a month. The system-requirements page is also inconsistent on the minimum macOS version and OpenGL version.
Plans and pricing
- Free trial: $0. 14 days. Not a free plan. Personal users start it from the trial page; enterprise users submit an inquiry form.

- Enterprise Network Online Monthly: $199 a month per seat. Auto-billed; node-locked to one device per license; non-refundable after renewal.

Prices were read from the vendor's help-center license article, system-requirements page, cancellation article and student-policy pages, plus CGChannel, 80.lv and a July 2026 student announcement. The official pricing page could not be opened, and Student pricing conflicts across pages. Prices are in US dollars; confirm on the live pricing page.
