What is Kilo Code?
Kilo Code is an AI coding agent that Kilo describes as open source, with extensions for VS Code and JetBrains, a CLI and cloud agents. Model requests go through the Kilo Gateway (500+ models from 60+ providers, per the pricing page), or you can use your own provider keys or local models.
Who it's for
Kilo's pricing page positions the free open-source extensions for individuals, Teams for groups that want centralized billing, usage analytics and shared BYOK, and Enterprise for SSO, audit logs and SLA commitments. Kilo does not publish a separate plan for students or nonprofits on the pages read.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Kilo lists a Free & Open Source tier at $0 that includes the VS Code, JetBrains and CLI extensions, code completion and generation, and support for any AI model, with usage billed separately.
- Kilo says Gateway usage is billed at exact provider rates with no markup, with Auto Model routing (Frontier, Efficient or Free) and pay-as-you-go top-ups.
- Kilo lists free inference options at $0 a month: Auto Free models through the Gateway where available, your own provider keys (BYOK), or local models via Ollama or LM Studio.
- Kilo Pass is a monthly credit subscription at $19, $49 or $199 a month; Kilo says payments convert 1:1 into paid credits that work across the IDE, CLI, Cloud Agents and Gateway.
- Kilo lists Teams features as usage analytics and reporting, an AI adoption score, shared custom agents, centralized billing, shared BYOK, team management, data privacy controls and priority support, with a 14-day Enterprise trial.
- Kilo lists Enterprise additions as SSO, OIDC, SCIM, audit logs, SLA commitments, model and provider limits, a shared private gateway for BYOK and dedicated support channels.
Limitations
- Premium models need credits: by default agentic use, autocomplete and background tasks all use credits, and Kilo's docs say autocomplete stops working when credits run out unless a free alternative is set.
- Kilo's docs say upstream providers may rate-limit some free models; no numeric limits are published. Kilo also says Auto Free may route to providers that log prompts and outputs and use them to improve their services, and advises not to submit personal or confidential data to it.
- Credit purchases carry a 5% processing fee for Individual, Teams and Enterprise, and Teams and Enterprise purchases include no model credits (Kilo's plans docs).
- Kilo Pass bonus credits are stated as 'up to 50%': on monthly billing the bonus starts at 10% in month 1, is 50% in month 2 and reaches a 40% maximum by month 8; the 50% applies every month only on annual billing. Free bonus credits expire at the end of each monthly cycle, and no refund terms appeared on the page.
- Kilo's own pages disagree on Teams pricing: kilo.ai shows $15 per user a month, while kilocode.ai/docs/seats/about shows Teams at $29 and Enterprise at $299 per user a month; Enterprise pricing is otherwise by quote, and Kilo's privacy policy does not say whether prompts or code are used to train models.
Plans and pricing

- Teams: $15 per user a month. Seat-based; no credits included; usage at provider rates; 5% fee on credit purchases; analytics, shared BYOK, priority support; 14-day Enterprise trial.
- Enterprise: Custom. Everything in Teams plus SSO/OIDC/SCIM, audit logs, SLA, model and provider limits, private gateway BYOK; contact sales.
Prices were read from kilo.ai/pricing, the Kilo Pass page and kilo.ai plan docs. Teams billing basis (monthly versus annual) is not stated on the pages read, and the one page showing $29 and $299 per user (kilocode.ai/docs/seats/about) conflicts with kilo.ai. Cloud compute is also billed per use (for example Code Review at $0.33 an hour). Confirm on the live pricing page.
