What is Augment Code?
Augment Code is a coding assistant with an agent and a Context Engine that indexes a codebase so the agent can work across files and repos. It runs as a VS Code extension, a JetBrains plugin and the Auggie terminal CLI, and its Context Engine can also be reached over MCP from other tools.
Who it's for
It suits developers and teams working in larger codebases who want an agent with indexed code context, and the docs describe the Business plan as covering up to 50 seats. Teams above 50 seats, or needing custom setups, are pointed to Enterprise.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The docs list VS Code, JetBrains IDEs (including WebStorm, PyCharm and IntelliJ) and the Auggie CLI as supported surfaces.
- The Context Engine MCP docs say it runs locally through the Auggie CLI or as an Augment-hosted remote server, and list clients such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Zed, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and Kiro.
- The pricing page lists Standard ($20) and Business ($100) as flat monthly prices with no per-seat charge, for up to 50 seats, with included usage pooled across the team.
- The pricing page says Code Review is available on all plans and lists SOC 2 Type II on all plans; paid plans exclude AI training on customer data under the Commercial Terms of Service.
- The pricing page says usage beyond the allowance is paid through top-ups with no plan change, and the docs say there is no minimum top-up amount.
- The pricing page lists Enterprise items such as CMEK, ISO 42001, SIEM, data residency, SSO/OIDC/SCIM, audit trails and multi-region compute.
Limitations
- No free plan is listed. The pricing page does not describe a free tier or trial length (trial and beta usage gets community support with no SLA), and it does not mention refunds or cancellation.
- Included usage is a dollar amount ($20 on Standard, $100 on Business) covering LLM inference, Context Engine and compute. LLM usage is billed at the model provider's list price plus a 40% service fee; the docs give Cosmos compute at $0.19 an hour in 5-minute increments.
- The docs say unused included usage does not roll over and resets each billing cycle; once it is used up, billing continues pay-as-you-go at the same rates. The pricing page says top-ups outside a paid plan expire 12 months after purchase.
- Usage dashboards and budgets are Enterprise-only per the docs, and the dashboard does not show Context Engine MCP usage. Context Engine MCP queries are billed with the same token pricing, which the docs put at roughly $0.03 to $0.06 per query on average.
- The vendor's pages disagree: the token-pricing docs describe only the Business plan at $100, a guide page still lists retired credit plans (Indie $20, Standard $60, Max $200), and a credits policy page describes Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise-Advanced tiers with credits bought separately. The credits policy page says purchases are final and non-refundable except as required by law or stated in the Agreement.
Plans and pricing
- Standard: $20 a month. Includes $20 of usage a month, up to 50 seats, flat price with no per-seat charge. Same feature list as Business on the pricing page.
- Business: $100 a month. Includes $100 of usage a month, up to 50 seats, flat price with no per-seat charge. Pay-as-you-go top-ups after the allowance is used.
- Enterprise: Custom (contact sales). Unlimited users, custom usage and top-ups, volume-based annual discounts, plus security, compliance and compute options and dedicated support.
Prices were read from the official pricing page, which lists monthly prices only; no annual-billing price is shown for Standard or Business, and the currency is dollars. The Standard plan's September 2026 launch date comes from a third-party site (Reported). Confirm on the live pricing page.
Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
