What is Zapier?

Zapier is a workflow automation platform that connects apps with trigger-and-action automations called Zaps, and adds AI steps, a Copilot assistant, Tables, Forms and an MCP connector for AI chat tools. It runs in the browser as a web app, and the vendor also offers an SDK and a developer platform for embedding automation in other products.

Who it's for

Zapier's help center describes Free and Pro as single-user plans and Team and Enterprise as multi-user plans, with Enterprise adding admin and security controls. It offers no-code, low-code and full-code tools, so it suits both non-technical teams and developers; the vendor lists no specific audience it excludes.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Zapier says its library includes 9,000+ apps, with nearly 700 AI apps that integrate directly.
  • The Free plan lists unlimited Zaps, Tables and Forms, with 100 tasks a month and the Copilot assistant (marked Beta).
  • AI by Zapier adds AI steps to Zaps using models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and Zapier lists AI fields in Tables and AI troubleshooting as AI features.
  • Zapier MCP is available on all accounts and lets MCP clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor call app actions; Zapier cites 30,000+ pre-built actions.
  • The help center says trigger steps, Filter, Paths, Formatter, Delay, Looping, Tables and Forms steps do not use tasks, and failed action steps do not count.
  • Zapier states it holds SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 reports, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and says it does not train on workflow data on any plan (Enterprise is opted out automatically, others by form); its AI providers are contractually barred from training.

Limitations

  • Free plan limits: 100 tasks a month, one user, two-step Zaps only, a 15-minute polling interval and 1 second of code runtime per step; Tables are capped at 2,500 records and Forms at 10 pages.
  • Usage is metered in tasks: each successful action step uses one task, AI steps vary by model tier, Code by Zapier uses more tasks for extended runtime, and each MCP tool call uses two tasks.
  • When the task limit is reached, new Zap runs are held until the cycle resets unless pay-per-task billing is on, which is charged at a higher per-task rate that the pricing page does not list.
  • Several features are reserved for higher tiers: shared Zaps and SAML SSO on Team, and advanced admin permissions, app controls and observability on Enterprise.
  • Zapier Agents and Chatbots are priced and metered separately from the core plans (Agents use a separate activity quota), and the pricing page gives conflicting knowledge-source limits for Chatbots Pro and Advanced.

Read from the official pricing page (zapier.com/pricing) and Zapier help pages. The page shows 'from $19.99' and 'from $69' without stating the billing basis, and offers Pay monthly or Pay yearly (Save 33%); one independent article (eesel, June 2026) reports $19.99 and $69 as annual-billing monthly prices and $29.99 and $103.50 for monthly billing, so treat these as Reported. That article lists 750 and 2,000 base tasks for the entry tiers while the official page shows tiers starting at 100 tasks. You can cancel any time; the refund policy was not readable.
